Week 1 and done!

One week in the books for the primary P.Es (Chantal, Abby, Lauryn and Connor) and our awesome program director Sam! Crazy that we've been working all year and this week went by so quickly! Belize is everything we could've imagined and more, so beautiful and so hot - like 40 degrees hot!!!!! Sunday morning we hopped on a bus from Belize City to San Ignacio where we are spending the next few weeks teaching. San Ignacio is a town in the Cayo district of Western Belize. The town is full of welcoming and friendly people with a vibrant atmosphere. So you can only imagine how excited we were to get into the classrooms this week and meet the kids! Connor and Lauryn went to Eden Primary School in Santa Elena and Chantal and Abby taught at Hill of Promise S.D.A. Both pairs had the opportunity to teach Standards 4, 5 & 6 (the equivalents of grades 6,7,8) and we taught anywhere from 4-6 classes per day! Both pairs covered topics such as peer Influence, Hygiene, stress, healthy relationships and abuse & bullying. At Hill of Promise, we really enjoyed our first week with the kids. A highlight of the week aside from teaching was being able to watch the kids participate in a school wide talent show! The kids showed off their singing and acting skills through a variety of performances!! Connor and Lauryn had an awesome first week at Eden and are so appreciative of the teachers and principle as they were equally as excited to have us in their classrooms! Their favourite part of the day is going through the questions in the question box which has shown how much the kids are engaged and enjoying the lessons! Other than teaching and lesson planning we've been doing a lot of eating and have discovered that belizean food is ~delicious~. Our parting question to you is do you prefer rice and beans or beans and rice?? Yes, there is a difference! To end off our first week we had to say goodbye to our awesome program director Sam. We are so sad to see her leave and can't thank her enough for getting us settled in. We are so excited for what is in store for our next two weeks in San Ignacio! Xoxo your primary pals
