Executive team

QHO's executive team works towards sustaining successful initiatives for our Peer Educators. Our team is divided into 6 PODS:  Logistics, Initiative, Fiscal, Strategic Planning, Public Relations, and Education. All positions work together in preparing Peer Educators for effectively facilitating health discussions, arranging the logistics of Initiative, working with community partners to expand our reach, organizing fundraisers, applying to grants, and monitoring the sustainability and effectiveness of our Initiatives.

Pilot Interns

From September 2024 to April 2025, QHO Pilot Interns will help the piloting and re-piloting process of our Guyana and Northern Canada Initiatives as we establish partnerships with NGOs whose missions and goals align with QHO's. The Pilot Intern will gain experience carrying out activities pertinent to the following areas/fields: global development studies, public health, global health, NGO management, fundraising. With the help from the Initiative Directors, Partnership Coordinators, and the Partnership Director, Pilot Interns will be involved in assessing the potential for a mutually beneficial partnership with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that QHO partners with as well as establishing the Initiative Model and working through the Evaluation Framework that will help the initiative run moving forward.

Peer Educators

Peer Educators are hired at the beginning of each school year, collaborating throughout the semester within their initiative and QHO as a whole. Peer Educators hired by QHO's Kingston Initiative facilitate health discussions with local partner organizations and host outreach events in the Kingston area from October to April. Peer Educators on QHO’s Summer Initiatives usually implement needs-based health curricula for 6-8 weeks during May and June in Guyana or Northern Canada. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the structure of these Initiatives is still being determined for the upcoming year and may involve both virtual initiative delivery during the school year and an in-person component in May and June.

Interns

QHO’s Internship Program aims to increase the efficiency of the organization and to provide successful applicants with the opportunity to get involved and learn about the functioning of a registered charity. Our Interns shadow and work closely with an Executive team member, such as the Finance Director, Public Relations Director, Strategic Planning Director, and Education Director, and are a vital aspect of the daily functioning of the organization. Overall, they assist Executive members with their responsibilities, and have the opportunity to implement special projects throughout the year.

Queen’s University students from a variety of backgrounds in any faculty or year are welcome to apply to QHO. Applications for positions on QHO’s Executive Team generally open in the early spring, hiring for the subsequent year. Applications for Peer Educator and Intern roles generally open in the early fall of each school year. Queen’s Health Outreach is an equal-opportunities organization and welcomes applications from suitably qualified persons of any race, gender, religion and/or sexual orientation. QHO is committed to upholding an equitable and accessible hiring process.
