Week 5, So Alive

We can't believe week 5 is over! We have all had great weeks in the classroom.  Between outreach events and great classroom talk, we are loving teaching the kids and they seem to be learning a lot! Emma and Ali headed to Caye Caulker for the weekend and had a great time! The rest of the crew went to Dangriga to meet up with Secondary and went to a mango festival, butterfly conservatory and got to experience making Mayan chocolate. Overall, week 5 has been incredible and we feel very prepared to head into our last week of teaching.  IMG_2855.JPGIMG_2574.JPG  Britt and Ali: This week we had a wonderful time in the classroom. The kids trust us now more than ever and we got to teach some fun lessons!! We taught self-esteem, puberty, drugs and substance abuse and abuse and healthy relationships. The students loved the warm and fuzzies activity and can’t wait to get them back on our last day. We had the opportunity to run the standard 4 PE class. We played octopus, football and basketball. We also had the opportunity to attend the boys football game at MCC Park. It was great to see the students we teach play football! We can’t believe it’s our last week teaching and are so excited for the rest of the week!IMG_0868.JPGIMG_6366.JPGEmma and Siobhan: This week we were lucky enough to teach self esteem, puberty, bullying, sexual responsibility and stress. This week was filled with lots of laughs during our lessons, and lots of bonding with our standard 6 classes. On Tuesday we attended our schools devotion and loved watching the kids sing and pray all together. During our self-esteem lesson we got the kids to make warm fuzzies for each other that we have now added our own comments to and plan to give back next week during our last class with the students to say thank you! After school we got into a good routine of getting question box questions done at a local cafe and coming back to exercise. This weekend Siobhan went to dangriga to visit secondary and Emma went to Caye Caulker to experience island life. We both had an awesome time and were happy to share stories on Sunday. We can’t believe how fast the 5 day week flew by and can’t wait to get back into he classroom for our last week but also upset we have to say our final goodbyes.Vivian and Josh: This week consisted of teaching only our Std 4’s and 5’s as the 6’s prepare for their PSE (highschool entrance exam)! We taught many different lessons including Puberty, Mental Health, and Drugs and Substance Abuse! We split the students up for Boy talk with Josh and Girl talk with Vivian and had a blast getting the students comfortable with Puberty! This week we really got to connect with our students, and are sad to be saying bye next week!IMG_4616.JPGIMG_5627.JPG
