Week 4 & Ready 4 More
A couple other title options were:1) Week 4 with lots of core!2) Week 4 we walked galore! We will explain more in the following passage.Sunday afternoon was filled with good byes and bus rides! Our three hour journey to Dangriga was a breeze and we were flown away by the beautiful landscapes. The Maya Mountains were spectacular! Each curve around the bend was a new adventure. We were greeted by Chad and Elenor at our new home and showed to our rooms! Our neighbours include 7 bunnies, a peacock and a noisy chicken. We were so lucky to get to experience the tail end of Dangriga Day - it included a fair, a swim in the river and some french fries! On Tuesday, we started teaching at Ecumencial (a school of approximately 1000 students). Krystal & Jack taught six classes on their first day! The students are all full of energy and were excited to play games surrounding effective communication, values and attitudes. A common question from the students is if Jack misses the Titanic and where Rose is. Kat & Paige have been busy teaching classes on abuse, bullying and working with a group of peer educators at another local high school, Delille. On Thursday we were happy to hold an assembly for all the first and second form classes, approximately 500 students in total. We covered topics like stigma, discrimination and peer pressure. The students were very enthusiastic and engaged in the activities we incorporated into our presentation such as chants, skits and trivia. On Friday after school we headed back to the bus station to go to Belize City for the annual cancer walk. Primary greeted us with dinner and open arms. We all headed to bed early in preparation for our 2:30am wake up. We had a little trouble falling asleep due to the loud thunder coming from subtropical storm, Alberto. Our bus ride to Ladyville left at 4:00am and we started our 15 kilometre walk back into the city! It was great getting to be a back of a community event and see how excited everyone was to support such an incredible cause. The sunrise made the early wake up a lot easier!
Our bus ride back to Dangriga was just as spectacular but a little more eventful. We had to trade off buses in Belmopan due to the first one smoking up on the highway. We spent a little time stranded on the side of the road while our driver took a look at the engine. Happy to say that we have all made it back to our accommodations safe and sound! We are looking forward to all that our second week at Ecumenical has to offer. We are also excited to continue our sunset beach workouts to keep up with our self care!Thank you to all our friends and family for keeping up to date on our initiative! You're support never goes unappreciated ♥️
