Lots of Flights and Sleepy Nights

Hello everyone! After 2 days, 4 flights and a lot of dried mangos, we have arrived in Fort Good Hope! Huge shout out to John's mom for driving us to the airport at 6am. We stayed overnight in the city of Yellowknife and loaded up on groceries before heading on a charter plane to our final destination. The principal of Chief T'Selehye School welcomed us at the airport, and another teacher made us pizza from the school's pizza and bagel shop. The students assist with running this shop and use the funds to pay for extracurricular excursions such as touring colleges and universities. We will be setting up camp in the school for the duration of our stay and can't be more excited to start exploring Fort Good Hope. Our first week we will be trying to meet with prominent community members such as the chief, officers of the RCMP, health workers, and basically anyone willing to talk to us. We are hoping to explore relevant health resources and programs that are already being implemented, so that we can develop a health curriculum suited to Fort Good Hope specifically. We also hope to gauge community beliefs and attitudes surrounding certain health topics in order to teach topics in following years that the students will be fully engaged in.That's all for now, but check back next week to learn how our first week went!Megan and John
