Our First Full Week of Teaching
Greetings family and friends! It’s hard to believe an entire week has gone by since we first arrived. However, we have been keeping busy with teaching and afterschool activities. On Thursdays afterschool we run sports from 3:15-5pm which has turned out to be a lot of fun and brings out a ton of students. Basketball is huge here, the students played it the entire time without showing any interest to switch the game. On Fridays we run crafts afterschool with the students. This past Friday we made bracelets and a number of different models of airplanes. Afterwards we headed to the hallway in order to test our airplanes and see which one went the furthest. We are looking forward to our first full week of teaching with the junior highs next week and have lots of fun lessons planned! We are also excited to be helping out with the job club, literacy club and teaching at the health center afterschool for students who aren’t always in school and for any community members interested in attending.Overall our first couple of lessons went really well! So far the students really seem to be interested in our lessons, we hope that we are able to maintain the students excitement for the next weeks to come. While in Pond we have found the community to be quite warm and welcoming throughout our stay. So many wonderful individuals have been going out of their way for us. By providing us with a number of tips, offering us support and trying to get us involved within the community. We have also been making an effort to learn a few words in Inuktitut, hopefully by the end of our stay our vocabulary with be a lot larger! We ended the week off with having tried artic chard for the first time and having walked around Pond Inlet exploring different parts of the community. It’s been a fun week so far and are excited to see what the next 5 weeks have to offer.Much loveKaitlyn & Jill
