We (finally) made it to Salluit!

After days of travelling, a total number of 10 take-offs, we have finally arrived in Salluit and we could not be happier!

IMG_0385As many of you may know by now, bad weather and high winds prevented us from landing in Salluit on the 27th, and then again on the 28th. Although it was a wee bit inconvenient, we were far from being "stranded."IMG_0401In fact, we'd like to think these two days allowed us to get a better idea of the "North" and visit communities just South of Salluit, including Ivujivik and Puvirnituq. Both nights we stayed in Puvirnituq and were amazed by how welcoming and accommodating everyone was (special shoutout to Richard at Puvirnituq Co-Op Hotel who managed to find us a place to stay every night, even when the Co-Op was full!).Nonetheless, we were S.U.P.E.R. happy to see that on Wednesday, the 29th, around 7:00 pm, we would be able to land in Salluit. We were greeted at the airport by Daryl who brought us to the little, warm, and cozy house that would become our home for the next 6 weeks.DSC_0024On Thursday, the 30th, we finally had the pleasure of meeting Bernard, the principle at Ikusik Primary and High School in Salluit, and many of the great teachers and youth leaders we will be collaborating and working with over the next weeks. We were even given the grand tour of the school, and met many students! The highlight so far? (I mean.. besides arriving in Salluit safe and sound!) After having only met the students at Ikusik for a brief moment, on our very first trip to the grocery store, students already recognized us and greeted us in the aisles with enthusiastic "Thomas!!" and "Emily!" ... Yup... I think we will like it here.Cheers, Thomas and EmilyDSC_0038
