...And that's just the tip of the iceberg!

Hello family and friends, We just finished a weekend that was full of adventure! Saturday morning began when we shared a delicious breakfast of crepes with our lovely hosts Pat and Juana. Then we were off to see the iceberg. We first saw the iceberg from the plane last Sunday, and we have been eager to visit ever since! Us with the iceberg!!This Saturday was also the much anticipated dog race. We were incredibly lucky to witness this important cultural event. Participants spent over a week racing by dog team from Igloolik (about 400km away across the sea ice!). After finishing, participants were lifted in to the air on their qamutik (a traditional Inuit dog sled). It was truly a privilege to watch such an exciting race! The end of race celebration! The finish line! After the race, we also got to meet one of Pond Inlet’s dog teams. Although they seemed a little scary at first, they were nice and cuddly once they got to know us. Erin receiving some puppy loveSunday was spent getting down to some hard-core lesson planning for the week ahead. We will be spending a full week teaching healthy relationships with the high school students and tackling substance abuse and peer pressure with the junior high students. We can't wait to see what our second week in Pond has to offer!Lots of love from the arctic,Kelsey & Erin
