Next Stop... Nunavut

Hello family, friends and followers!Welcome to our first blog post! Tomorrow morning we leave for Pond Inlet and could not be more excited. We have spent the past week getting together all of our materials for project- from Frisbees to heavy jackets and A LOT of food. Food can get expensive up north so let’s just say that we wanted to take up as much as possible. This lead to a car filled to the brim for our drive to Ottawa.photo 3 Now that we are in Ottawa, things are finally starting to sink in! Our day starts bright and early tomorrow with our flight to Iqaluit. After a quick layover we board a second plane that touches down in Clyde River before reaching Pond Inlet. We can’t wait to see Pond Inlet for the first time. Some fast facts about our arctic home for the next six weeks. Pond Inlet is located above the 72nd parallel making it 3228 km from our hometown of Toronto! The primary language spoken is Inuktitut and Pond Inlet has a population of 1549 people. At this time of year, Pond Inlet begins to experience 24 hours of sunlight! Pond Inlet has two schools that we will be teaching in during our time there- the high school known as Nasivvik and an elementary school called Ulaajuk.map2Finally we’d just like to say good luck and lots of love to the other QHO travelling projects in Kenya, Belize, Guyana and especially the other northern projects in Salluit, Webequie, Pickle Lake and Mish. Once we get settled we will be sure to post again! Lots of love,Kelsey and Erin photo 1
