2nd-ary takes the 2nd week!

Week two came fast and furious, with lots of sports, crafts and education! After making many connections in week one, our second week was off to a strong start. Our schedules were ready and we were able to spend more time with the students teaching mental and sexual health. Our question boxes were filled with important and reflective responses to the lessons being taught. It was rewarding to see that the students were engaged with the material. In our free time, we joined in on the local Judo and Karate classes. Krystal & Katrina wrestled on the mat, while Jack & Paige perfected their shutos and mae-geris. It was great getting to meet more members of the community and a younger generation of students. During lunch break we were challenged to multiple games of soccer and volleyball. At the YWCA, we spent an afternoon helping the girls create Mother's Day cards and poems. We are looking forward to all of the extra-curricular activities that week three has to offer. These experiences allowed us to make better connections with the students outside and inside of the classroom!Krystal & Katrina focused on teaching mental health this week in schools. They were able to engage in discussions surrounding stigma, mental illness and test their knowledge with a game of Jeopardy. The classroom got very heated during the game that made the learning more conducive and fun!Jack & Paige started the week teaching discrimination and abuse, and finished off the week with lessons on sexual health. The students were able to share their knowledge through debates and other educational activities. During lunch breaks Paige was swarmed by students wanting henna tattoos while Jack played soccer. Paige even had some of the teachers wanted to join in on the temporary tattoo fun!Overall, week two was a great week filled with rice and beans, fantastic sunsets and lychees! Lastly, we wanted to wish our Mom's the best Mother's Day even though we couldn't be there to give them all a big hug. QHO wouldn't be anywhere without all of the parents that support us. ♥️ Stay tuned for next week's blog 😎
